Conference updates

June 22, 2021

Dear Members and Friends of the North American Society for Social Philosophy:

I hope to see many of you online at our upcoming virtual conference, to be held July 15 to 17, focused on “Revolutions and Reparations.” We’re expanding on last year’s format, and will be hosting multiple asynchronous presentations and several synchronous concurrent sessions. We’ll also present our annual book award session (this year honoring Serena Parekh’s 2020 No Refuge: Ethics and the Global Refugee Crisis), and keynote addresses from Meena Krishnamurthy, Susan Brison, and Linda Martín Alcoff.

I’m writing with reminders about:

  1. renewing your membership by the deadline in order to participate in the conference;
  2. volunteering to serve on one of NASSP’s committees;
  3. submitting your work to Social Philosophy Today; and
  4. completing your asynchronous presentation as soon as possible.

MEMBERSHIP AND CONFERENCE PARTICIPTION

Our half-price half-year dues offer became available as of June 15, 2021. Participation in the conference will be free for all members of the North American Society for Social Philosophy whose membership is paid by the morning of July 13, 2021. (This timeline allows us to process email invitations for current members on July 14, in preparation for the first day of meetings on July 15.) Half-year dues including access to NASSP’s refereed journal, Social Philosophy Today, will be $25 for fully employed philosophers, and $12.50 for grad students and underemployed philosophers. Students and underemployed philosophers may elect to pay half-year dues without journal access for $8. Renew your membership at this link: Philosophy Documentation Center. You can log in to your account at any time to check the status of your membership; or you may call 800-444-2419 or email order@pdcnet.org.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

We are seeking new members to serve on our Program Committee, Book Award Committee, Graduate Award Committee, and Committee on Inclusivity and Accessibility. You can find more information on the work of these committees at this link (scroll down): https://www.northamericansocietyforsocialphilosophy.org/about/officers-roles/

Please let me know if you are interested in participating in the work of the North American Society for Social Philosophy.

SOCIAL PHILOSOPHY TODAY

Social Philosophy Today, NASSP’s peer-reviewed annual journal, is interested in receiving submissions of your work. Please see https://www.northamericansocietyforsocialphilosophy.org/publications/

ASYNCHRONOUS PRESENTATIONS

If you have been invited to provide an asynchronous presentation of your work for this year’s conference, please send the link to your video as soon as possible to M.Silliman@mcla.edu. The Program Committee (Matt Silliman, chair; Janice Moskalik, and Maurice Hamington) is working hard to finalize conference details.

Best wishes,

Beth Sperry

President, North American Society for Social Philosophy
