Member Announcement: FEAST Steering Committee Nomination

Dead Friends and Colleagues,

I am writing to invite self‑nominations for leadership roles in FEAST [Assoc. for Feminist Ethics and Social Theory] at a pivotal moment for the organization. Many Steering Committee positions have already lapsed, and all current terms will conclude by June or December of 2026. As a result, FEAST will be electing an entirely new organizing body that will shape the organization’s future and determine whether and how FEAST continues its work.

Currently, we are only accepting self‑nominations for leadership positions. This policy is intentional. However, while we only seek self-nominations, please feel free to forward this message in order to spread the word amongst folks you want to ensure have the chance to self-nominate. After all, many of us only step into leadership when colleagues tell us they think we have leadership potential.

Open Positions:

  • Chair (or co-chairs) (3yr term: 1/1/2027 – 12/31/2029, begins as Chair Elect 6/1/2026)
  • Treasurer (3 yr term: 1/1/2027 – 12/31/2029, begins as Treasurer Elect 6/1/2026)
  • Accessibility Chair (3yr term: 6/1/2027 – 12/31/2029)
  • Two Program Committee Co-Chairs (3yr term: 6/1/2026 – 12/31/2029)
  • Social Media / Outreach Coordinator (3yr term: 6/1/2026 – 12/31/2029)
  • Web Coordinator (3 yr term: 6/1/2026 – 12/31/2029)
  • One At‑Large Member (3yr term: 6/1/2026 – 12/31/2029)
  • Graduate Student At-Large Member/Representative (1yr term: 6/1/2026 – 12/31/2028)
  • Nominations and Elections Chair (3 yr term: 6/1/2026 – 12/31/2029)

All roles will begin immediately following the election. The Chair and Treasurer positions will begin immediately as Chair‑Elect and Treasurer‑Elect roles. Those elected will work closely with the current co‑chairs and treasurer to learn the role before assuming full responsibilities on January 1, 2027.

Please click here for a detailed description of the roles and responsibilities.

A summary of job descriptions for each role will be included with the nomination form. To nominate yourself, you will be asked to submit a brief biography (100-150 words) and a short statement of interest (100-150 words) describing your relationship to FEAST and your hopes for the organization’s future.
We are waiving the requirement that voters be paid members to lower barriers. While we hope to fill these roles, it is also possible that insufficient nominations would require FEAST to go dormant or begin a process of winding down.

FEAST has long played a vital role in supporting feminist ethics and social theory and in sustaining the scholarly community under difficult political and institutional conditions. If FEAST has mattered to you, or if you believe in what it could become in the years ahead, I encourage you to consider stepping forward.

In Solidarity,

Roksana Alavi
